Pool table bumper replacement: when rebounds feel wrong

The rubber cushions along the rails are also commonly called pool table bumpers. Weak or uneven rebounds can point to hardened, loose or incorrectly fitted cushions, but the rail construction and setup also need checking. TableSmith assesses the cause before recommending bumper replacement or rail repair.

Refelting replaces the fabric on the playing bed and rails. Cushion replacement changes the rubber beneath the rail cloth; new cloth alone does not repair damaged rubber. If you are planning new cloth, mention any dead spots or inconsistent bank shots so both parts of the job can be assessed together.

Is cushion replacement the same as replacing the rail cloth?

No. The rubber cushions sit beneath the rail cloth. Recovering the rails changes the fabric; cushion replacement addresses the rubber and may require additional rail work. Brad evaluates the cushion profile and condition before recommending the scope.

Can cushion replacement be combined with moving or refelting?

Yes. TableSmith replaced cushions and installed new cloth during the Hurley-to-Saugerties move and the antique Brunswick Junior Grand relocation in Millbrook. Include any rebound concerns when describing your job.

Our commitment to your table

We stand behind our workmanship.

Careful assembly, accurate leveling, properly fitted cloth and attention to the pockets and cushions matter. So does how you are treated after the work is complete.

If something doesn’t seem right after service, contact Brad directly. We’ll assess the concern, explain what we find and take responsibility for correcting issues caused by our workmanship.

Clear expectations

We’ll explain the work, materials and any known table conditions that affect the job. If additional paid work is needed, we’ll discuss the charges before proceeding.

Care for older tables

Age and previous repairs can cause issues unrelated to new work. Follow-up assessments on antique tables are initially charged at standard travel and labor rates, disclosed before the visit. Charges attributable to a confirmed workmanship issue are waived or refunded.

A clear explanation of the cause

Normal wear, accidental damage, changes in the supporting floor, or problems caused by someone else moving or working on the table may need separate paid service. We’ll explain the findings and your options.
